Blucape
Mobile Communication Network
Mission
Blucape is the new mobile communication network for the young generation. While companies like FON and Meraki are building wi-fi wireless networks for laptops, Blucape focuses on the one billion mobile phones. A mobile social network experience, fun and entertaining, through world-wide wireless bluetooth networks, supported by targeted advertising
Industry Segment / Product
Blucape is a bandwidth-sharing movement inspired by peer-to-peer principles. Blucape allows the user to take advantage of its Internet connection at home to transport wireless voice and data via Bluetooth. Users contribute to build and enjoy an exclusive mobile wireless movement becoming themselves an “Open Wireless Worldwide Mobile Carrier”, funded by advertising.
Blucape’s primary target is represented by 14-30 years old, called BluUsers, enjoying free of charge local and global communicating services through their mobile devices anytime they’re within one of all available Blucape covered areas:
- BluHouse: an indoor coverage in the user private home
- BluZone: either a wide indoor/outdoor coverage in public settings (like pubs, cafés, bars, discos, cinemas, malls, and so on) or a wide outdoor coverage in popular city-area (like streets, squares, avenues, parks, villas, and so on)
Blucape users deploying public wireless accesses within a BluZone are called BluSpotters because they make nearby BluUsers to enjoy the network through their hotspots.
Market opportunity
Every Bluetooth compatible mobile phone in the world (2 billions units today) is a Blucape target device. The world mobile terminal market is forecast to grow by 8.42 percent per year to 1.43 billion units in 2011 from 1.14 billion units in 2007 and 987 million a year earlier, according to Idate. Gartner expects $11 billion in global revenue from ads on mobile devices by 2011, up from less than $1 billion a year now.
Assuming each user generates an average 5 impressions per day with $20 CPM ($0.02 per impression), the potential revenue per user is $3.1/month. Blucape’s potential market would therefore be $ 7.75 billion/month (targeting 2.5 billion Bluetooth phones)
