Alberto Onetti, Ph.D., Chairman, Mind the Bridge Foundation

Professor of Business Administration and Innovation, Department of Economics, Insubria State University (Varese, Lombardia); Director, CrESIT Research Centre and Visiting Professor at San Francisco State University.


Alberto Onetti is Professor of business administration and innovation management at the Department of Economics of the Insubria University. He is Head of the CrESIT Research Centre since its inception.  He acts as Pro-Rector for innovation and academic high-tech spin-offs.
Since 2006 he is Visiting Professor at San Francisco State University. He’s also Chairman and Board Member of Mind the Bridge Foundation, the California non-profit organization that connects the most innovative Italian startups with Silicon Valley’s partners and investors.
He is a seasoned serial entrepreneur with a strong focus in corporate strategy and corporate finance. Among the others, he co-founded Funambol, Inc., an open mobile source company in Foster City, CA.

He acts as consultant for leading banking groups and for italian and multinational companies and sits on the board of several private companies and startups.
Nowadays, his research interests regard life science industry and business models for high tech and global companies.
Professor Alberto Onetti is author of an extensive list of conference contributions, books and articles. He also currently writes for Corriere.it, where he is co-editor of the column “Silicon Valley”.



Charles Versaggi, Ph.D., MTB Boot Camp Director

President of Versaggi Biocommunications®


Dr. Versaggi is president of Versaggi Biocommunications, a marketing consultancy specializing in corporate and marketing communications for the global life-science industry. With nearly 30 years of strategic marketing and communications experience, he helped launch a number of industry firsts — including the first genetically engineered vaccine for Chiron Corp. (marketed by Merck & Co.), the first applications of minimally invasive surgery for CardioThoracic Systems (now Abbott Vascular), the first DNA arrays for Hyseq Inc., and the first genomic disease management products for Vysis Inc. (now Abbott Molecular) to help qualify breast cancers patients for Herceptin® (Genentech).

He recently served as co-chairman of the board for VascularCures — the Foundation for Accelerated Vascular Research at the University of California San Francisco. Previously, he served as Director of Bioindustrial Account Services for Regis McKenna Inc., a marketing consultancy that helped launch Genentech and Apple Inc., among other technology leaders. A Mass Media Science Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), he was a science writer for The Milwaukee Journal and taught science journalism at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). A frequent guest speaker for the UCSC Bioscience Business and Marketing Program, Dr. Versaggi earned his doctorate in biological sciences from the University of California, Santa Barbara and holds an M.A. and B.A. in biology from San Francisco State University.



JAMES C. ROBERTS III, GLOBAL CAPITAL LAW GROUP PC

Lawyer & Managing Partner, Global Capital Law Group; CEO at Global Capital Strategic Group


Mr. Roberts is the managing partner of the law firm, Global Capital Law Group, and CEO of its affiliated strategic consulting firm, Global Capital Strategic Group. He splits his time between Los Angeles and Milan (well, other places, too). He tries to bring law into the strategic realm because, too often, management views it as a cost center and an impediment to implementation. He also try to de-mystify it. On the consulting side, he works with his colleagues to develop strategies that can be implemented and then implement them. Look for his work (in both law and consulting) on startups, venture capital, licensing, international expansion and mergers & acquisitions in digital media and technology (e.g., cross-platform or mobile projects), cleantech and other advanced technology initiatives, especially those that cross borders.

He received his law degree from the University of Chicago, a masters from Stanford University and an undergraduate degree from Berkeley.



Leonardo Camiciotti, Development Program Director

Top-IX Consortium


Mr. Camiciotti is responsible for the Development Program of the TOP-IX Consortium.
 The program aims at facilitating new business creation by providing infrastruc¬tural support, such as Internet bandwidth and cloud computing, to early stage Internet ventures. Previously, he was Research Scientist, Strategy & Business Development Officer and Business Owner at Philips Corporate Research. He enjoys venture creation, business development, disruptive innovation, and he adds, “…mostly, curious people!” Mr. Camiciotti graduated in Electronic Engineering from the University of Florence and holds an M.B.A. from the University of Turin.


IVAN FARNETI, PARTNER AT DOUGHTY HANSON TECHNOLOGY VENTURES

Venture capital investor, Doughty Hanson Technology Ventures


Mr. Farneti has been an active venture capital investor in start-up businesses both in Europe and in the US since 1997. He is a Partner at Doughty Hanson Technology Ventures where he focuses on enterprise, internet and mobile software and services. His investment portfolio includes Handmade Mobile, Garlik, and FourthDD and realized investments in Gomez Inc (acquired by Compuware), Plazes (acquired by Nokia), Tridion (acquired by SDL) and Mobango (acquired by People). Before Doughty Hanson he co-founded the first venture capital fund of Deutsche Bank and he was a management consultant at Bain & Co in Italy.



MARCO MAGNOCAVALLO, Co-FOUNDER AT BLOGO, Co-FOUNDER AT WIKLI

Angel Investor and Serial Entrepreneur


Mr. Magnocavallo is a serial entrepreneur, product manager and technology executive. The last company he founded Blogo, become the most visited vertical blog network in Europe with more than 11 ml/uu month with activities in 5 countries. He sold a first stake of Blogo to RCS/Dada and then sold the whole company to Populis for 8,5 million USD. He is also an angel investor and in many cases a board member. He has currently invested in companies in the US, UK and in Italy including: WebMynd, NextDigest, NoiseToys, Fubles and Iubenda. In these deals ha has co-invested with great investors like 500 Startups/Dave McClure, Founders Found, Paul Graham, Kauffman Foundation and dPixel. He is also a startup mentor and panelist at many events and have been covered in Techcrunch, Read/Write Web, Alarm Clock, Corriere della Sera, Repubblica, Wired.

Earlier in his career he has founded a web agency (Communicate!) where he shipped complex web projects (Intranet/Extranet) for big customers such as the Italian Postal Service, McKinsey, Daimler Chrysler, Lycos. He has sold this business to a pre-IPO company and then stayed a couple of years as CEO.
After Communicate! He did a management buyout of an Italian ISP with more than 8000 SME customers, he did resized the business (people, offices) and bring it back to EBIT. He sold this company to private investors. In the late 1990′s he has also founded an e-commerce site that grew to more than 1ml/$ sales in the first year of activity and then he agreed to sell it to Jumpy (part of Fininvest Group, listed a MI Stock Exchange). Then he founded an online customer care company that built one of the first livechat solution for e-commerce websites, but this time it was too early and the market was not ready.
He is currently working on a couple startups: Wikli, a weekly curated e-mail digest and SlashCDN where he is doing group buying on Content Delivery Services.

Mr. Ciociola is founder and CEO of MusiXMatch , a new startup focused on Music + Online Ads Platform.
He has more than 11 years worldwide experience in Mobile Entertainment and Music Market. In 1999 he founded one of the first Mobile Entertainment player: Wireless Solutions spa, then part of DADA Group in 2001 (DA.MI).
He defines himself as a Web&Mobile and technology Passionate with a 100% entrepreneurial spirit and huge experience on Product Marketing and Placement, Business Development and Marketing.
He has built and managed relationship with more than 35 mobile carriers worldwide (TIM Brazil, Telecom Italia Group, Telefonica, Vodafone, Orange, TMN, ATT, Sprint, Verizon, Oi Telemar, Vivo, America Movil, Claro, America Movil,Telcel, TMN, Optimus, etc.).
In addition to that he managed global deal with Sony

Music, Warner Music , Universal Music, The Orchard and top content sourcer like EA, Glu Mobile, Apple, Get Jar, Nokia OVI, Palm, BBWA, etc.



PIETRO BEZZA, Managing Partner at Connect digital media ventures

Pietro is a passionate entrepreneur turned venture capital investor.
He is active angel investor in Picklive, PluggPluss, FourThumbs, Dri Dri; is member of IAG; is Mentor at Seedcamp and Oxygen Accelerator.
Currently Pietro is working to build a new European venture fund specialized in Digital Media.
Pietro has 12+ years experience in Internet, Mobile and Media sectors. In 2000, Pietro founded Neo Network, where in the role of CEO brings a garage born start up to be one of the international leader in Digital Entertainment with > 30€M annual turnover via an organic, diversified and global growth. After acquisition of Neo Network by Magnolia, Pietro became Magnolia shareholders and cooperated to acquisition process of Magnolia by Zodiak Media (De Agostini Group).

In 1995 Pietro attended a Master in international marketing at NYU Stern. In 1996 he joined Kraft Foods as Brand Manager and in 1998 he was at DLV,BBDO advertising agency as Strategic Planner.


Stefano Bernardi, Dave McClure’s Shadow

Stefano will soon move to the SF bay area to work at a 5-people VC-funded startup.
He most recently was Dave McClure’s shadow at 500startups. He previously was an associate at dPixel, the leading early stage venture capital firm in Italy.
He is involved in various roles in: SaveMyInbox, GoWar, Iubenda, Coderloop, HackItaly, Techcrunch Europe and HackFwd.



Marco Asquini, Co-Founder, General Manager SUPER//FLUO

Co-Founder, Italian Angels for Growth


Mr. Asquini is an industrial designer, serial entrepreneur, restructuring specialist, and the co-founder of Super//Fluo, a Pordenone-based company focused on the design and creation of Friulian TVs, plasmas and LCDs. Super//Fluo is the product of a 2006 restructuring that he implemented of Seleco Brionvega and Imperial, well established names in high-end consumer electronics. Additionally, Mr. Asquini is the co-founder of the Italian Angels for Growth (IAG), the largest angel investment group in Italy aimed at promoting Italian entrepreneurship.

A native of Udine, Mr. Asquini gained his first entrepreneurial experience in 2001 through the acquisition of Spei Orion S.p.A, a printed circuit-board manufacturer. In less than nine months he brought the company from three negative fiscal years to a net profit of €1 million.

Previously, after only six months of employment, he was appointed CEO of Lima S.p.A., a developer of orthopedic prostheses and aeronautical materials he subsequently restructured, increasing its net profit by more than €4 million within two years. His successful track record of company restructuring to profitability continued before focusing on Super//Fluo.

Allergic to ties and a professed “black T-shirt victim,” Mr. Asquini is an avid sports enthusiast, and declares his craziest ideas come from brain-oxygen deprivation during his early morning jogs. He also races motorbikes in the Supersport Class of the Campionato Italiano Velocità. Mr. Asquini graduated in Business Administration from the Universita‘ Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan, and earned a Master in Leadership and a Master in Finance from Sundridge Park (London). He also completed a Master in Business through the Young Managers Programme at INSEAD (Fontainebleau).


Marco Salvadori, Director, Cisco Systems

Director at the consulting unit of Cisco (aka IBSG – Internet Business Solutions Group)


Marco is a director at the consulting unit of Cisco (aka IBSG – Internet Business Solutions Group), focusing on telecom and media industry.
His work is on global basis with a threefold role:
- advising top customers and strategic prospects of Cisco to identify, analyze and pursue business innovations that are (also) enabled by digital technologies (not only from Cisco)
- co-operating with internal B.U.s to assess market opportunities and align development roadmaps
- supporting due diligence activities as part of M&A
Prior to Cisco Marco worked 15+ years in management consulting, also for A.T. Kearney and Booz & Co. 

At that time he essentially worked for Telcos, having relevant engagements related to service creation, processes redesign, newco launch.


Marco hold the MS degree in Electronic Engineering from Politecnico di Milano and complemented his business education with executive courses from SDA Bocconi and INSEAD.
