Our purpose is to create a company able to provide high technology based products and services for preventive/diagnostic medicine; in particular, Quipu will be a biomedical company engaged in designing and developing devices for the early-detection of cardiovascular risk and management of cardiovascular diseases. Cardiovascular diseases are one of the main causes of mortality and morbidity in the western countries: therefore, in the last years, more and more attention has been dedicated to this topic, in order to improve the quality of human life and to reduce the medical costs related to the large diffusion of such pathology. Recently, greater awareness has been assigned to the fact that, in order to prevent and cure efficiently cardiovascular diseases, the classical evaluation of the risk is not sufficient. A real characterization of the patient is possible only with parameters measurable on biomedical images and/or signals; by using proper, suitable devices these parameters can be precisely monitored during the life-time of the patient. Hence, the initial core-business of Quipu will be based on automatic, non-invasive, user friendly and low-cost devices for accurate and robust evaluation of early cardiovascular risk markers that can be objectively measured in a single patient. Great attention will be also focused on systems for the analysis under stress conditions that might provide high-value clinical information, not easily measurable with the currently available instruments and techniques. At the beginning our target customers will be European research centers in the field of cardiovascular diseases. After this first phase, also clinical units will be contacted and sales will be extended to the USA.
