An interdisciplinary open network focusing on the public and communities.
Arguing that the public is much more a product of the constant negotiating between subjects, places and authorities rather than a premise, snark deals with the analysis and stimulation of this production through different devices.
Snark is an interdisciplinary open network involving architects, urban planners, geographers, semiologists, economists and journalists. Snark deals with urban design and pays particular attention to the social role played by mobile communication technologies and geopositioning. Snark acts in the public sector, on both a S and XL scale. Snark has an hybrid model offering both services and products. Snark’s core business is the development of two products:
- okobici: a 3rd generation lowcost/hitech bikeshairng service
- chairsharing: a public service of movable shared WIFI benches
Snark services comprise: spatial, ethnographic and ethnosemiotical analysis, both qualitative and quantitative, spatial strategies, ubiquitous computing and geopositioning systems, cultural planning and communication strategies, analysis and economic/financial feasibility studies.
In 2010 snark won The Spinner Consortium grant (European Social Fund) assigned to high innovation and knowledge based companies. Snark was founded by Emanuele Bompan, Gaspare Caliri, Marco Lampugnani, Beatrice Manzoni. it also inclues sonia fanoni.
In 2010 a jury chaired by Rafael Moneo and comprising the directors of several main institution for architecture numbered chairsharing amongst the 40 best projects in european public space.
In 2009-10 snark has been invited to participate and give lectures also at: cittadellarte/fonazione pistoletto; mambo bologna contemporay art museum; “deadline today!” an exhibition a the arkitectur zentrum, Wien; the festival of creativity in florence; milan forniture fair; festival della cittadinanza (festival of citizenship) padova; milan politecnico; KTH stockholm; etsa madrid; domus academy; bologna’s urban center, pechakucha barcelona.
Snark also reflects on its own practice through research papers presented in the form of papers, articles, books.
