 Mission

Our purpose is the design, characterization and production of nano-structured
materials and their exploitation in biology/biochemistry. Nano4Bio masters the
processes to chemically modify and functionalize substrates with smart thin films,
controlling 3-dimensional features at nanometer scale for selective and highly
optimized preferential cell culture protocols. By controlling the support characteristics
at nanometer-scale, Nano4Bio will provide new substrates for a “cell-theque”, able to
discern cell characteristics and to influence cellular responses at our will. The
application of Nano4Bio technologies will set a breakthrough with respect to the state
of the art. In fact, the availability of the nano-engineered supports will greatly support

Industry segment: Nano-bio-technology.
Product: SMART Nanostructured supports for Cell Cultures and Biosensor.
Nano4Bio will develop and market smart nano-structured/patterned surfaces useful
for the selection, growth and differentiation of many cell lines. As a second step, these
supports will be designed and developed as new biosensors.
Nano4Bio will provide highly innovative smart supports for cell culturing, ready-to-use
and on-demand, addressing to life science research (i.e. stem cell, tissue
regeneration), diagnostic, clinical field and in particular to pharmaceutical industry.

Competitive advantage

The products for cell culture present today on the global market do not take into account
the different morphological and biochemical cell features that are recognized to affect cell growth and differentiation. Although recent research results attest the influence of
substrate nano-morphology on cellular systems, the development of new products to
optimize or indeed make possible cell cultures has been not yet fully exploited. Thus, the
Nano4B nanotechnology application to the materials for cell cultures will allow to produce new cell-specific supports.

Market opportunity

Nano4Bio will enter the market by providing new smart products for cell culture,
addressing to life science research (i.e. stem cell, tissue regeneration), diagnosis and
clinic and in particular to pharmaceutical industry. Hopefully after few test-cycles derived
from the initially activity of Nano4Bio with collaborative customers (i.e. Universities,
Italian companies already in contact with Nano4Bio), the credibility and efficacy of the
Nano4Bio SMART supports will be improved and a certified product will be addressed to
a larger market (multinational big companies), with particular attention to those that did
not distribute, at the present, their products in Italy.
